GSW soccer continues to improve

Posted: Updated:

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Georgia Southwestern men have held down the cellar since joining the Peach Belt Conference five years ago.

Even though conference coaches are predicting another last place finish for the Canes, head coach Warren Russ believes this is the year that Georgia Southwestern starts moving towards the top of the conference standings.

The Canes are relying on defense with defenders Michael Morgan and Linley Laverdure and keeper Cade Jones.

Coach Russ knows these players and the newcomers face another tough challenge in the Peach Belt Conference.

Warren Russ said. "It is a challenge for us but nothing ventured is nothing gained. We are happy to be competing against the best teams rather than competing against average teams."

The Georgia Southwestern men open their season next Friday with games in Mount Vernon.

Lady Canes soccer play at Valdosta State next Thursday.
