ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Coming off their first trip to the national tournament, the Darton soccer program faces big expectations this season.
Coach Bart Sasnett's team is ranked sixth in the nation in the preseason junior college polls.
That is good news for the program.
The bad news is Darton returns only three starters from last year's squad that finished second in the national tournament.
Sophomores Diego Ramos, Guilherme Frotz and Javier Anor have done a good job in getting a big class of freshman ready to defend their region title.
Sasnett last year's national tournament run has helped Darton land freshman like Jowayne Laidley from Orlando, Florida and Dennis Boateng from the Netherlands.
Head coach Bar Sasnett said. "It makes it a lot easier when you are competing against another school to get somebody. You can tell them to come to a school where we are going to try to compete for a region championship. We are going to try to compete for a national championship. We have a great success rate of moving players on to four year schools. That is greatest selling attributes is moving players on."
Darton opens the season Friday afternoon in Pensacola, Florida against powerhouse San Jacinto College from Texas.
