Five Albany gang members appeared before a judge Wednesday morning on charges they fired shots at an Albany Police officer.

Officer Dillard Glover was shot at on East Residence Avenue Tuesday morning.

Those gangsters, some of whom  have long criminal records, remain in jail charged with the crime.

Sheriff Kevin Sproul and District Attorney Greg Edwards said officers in all Dougherty County law enforcement agencies have been told to be on high alert, but the D.A. says the quick arrests of five men for this shooting show law enforcement will not be intimidated by gangs.

As the five Albany men stood before a Judge, accused of being gang members who targeted a police officer, the District Attorney said they will not intimidate law enforcement.

District Attorney Greg Edwards said "We are going to deal with this with the full weight of the law."

The suspects are charged with shooting at APD Officer Dillard Glover as he responded to a 9-1-1 call on East Residence Avenue Tuesday morning. The officer was not injured in the hail of bullets, but the back passenger window of his patrol car was shot out. With gangs targeting cops, the D.A. says it's time for the community to step up to help law enforcement with information.

Edwards said "this is America. We can not let gang members terrorize our neighborhoods and make assaults on our police officers."

22 year old Sean Frazier is one of the suspects charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, and gang participation. It's not his first run-in with the law. In October 2010, he was arrested during a raid of the Coconut Lounge in East Albany. He was also questioned following the murder outside Brick House Productions, and in April 2010 was arrested in a drug bust in Panama City.

Also charged with this shooting, Michael Stephens. He was indicted in May 2010 for aggravated assault for a shooting that sprayed bullets at a home daycare and several homes. Both were out on bond. The D-A says he'll push to keep them in jail now.

Cortavis Davis, Roger Farmer and Steven Washington were also charged in the police shooting. The D.A. credits the gang unit's intelligence of gangsters with the quick arrests.

Edwards said "The District Attorney's office and the Gang Unit have maintained a data base with information with persons involved with gang activity over the larger course of time. So we're trying to just follow through."

The five men arrested and two wanted suspects in the shooting are Bloods, sworn enemies of the Crips arrested over the weekend. So the District Attorney says he can't explain the logic of a rival gang attacking law enforcement,  but he says he will prosecute them to the fullest penalty to stop them.

There is a $5000  reward offered by the city in this shooting, and Albany Police tell us that CRIMESTOPPERS is receiving tips. The Five suspects are being held without bond.

Police are still looking for two suspects,  David Stephens and Rolando Frazier.

The Crips gang roundup continues. Three Albany men also made their first appearances before the Judge this morning in relation to those indictments.
