Five MCLB civilian employees and three former contract workers are charged with selling prescription drugs on base.

Five current employees in the maintenance and distribution centers are charged with conspiracy to distribute narcotics. Three former base contract workers are also charged.

MCLB Albany confirms no Marines have been arrested.

The eight people named in the federal indictment are charged with conspiracy to distribute narcotics: Akeem Daniel, Bryan Santos, Roy Shine, Leon Winsberry, Nathaniel Swan, Sr., Michael Teemer, Willie Watts, and Jonathan Webb.

Investigators say that prescription painkillers, Vicaden, Lortab, and Lorcet were sold by the suspects. Investigators also found crack cocaine.

"They are individuals who we developed information about being involved in the distribution and conspiracy to distribute certain drugs, those individuals are located at various points on the base," said Michael Moore the U.S. Attorney Middle District Georgia

All but Winsberry, who has yet to be arrested, appeared before the magistrate judge in  Federal court late Wednesday afternoon.

Col. Terry Williams says the base has a zero tolerance for illegal drugs, and says that violators will be caught.

U. S. Attorney Michael Moore says some people were indicted by grand jury earlier this month. Suspects will appear before the U. S. Magistrate Wednesday afternoon.
