Albany commission approves Reverse 911, Internet cafe moratorium

ALBANY (WALB) - The city of Albany will soon start trial run of a reverse 911 service.

Commissioners approved the deal that will give the city 100,000 minutes to provide alerts to citizens about major crimes or traffic problems.

It will cost about $12,000 and functions like the county's code red system and will include land line and cell phone users who sign up for the service.

City leaders also approved a moratorium Tuesday night on Internet gaming cafes.

During the 120-day moratorium, those businesses cannot apply for business licenses

Last week, Governor Nathan Deal called on the GBI and local prosecutors around the state to crack down on the cafes which he says are illegal gambling parlors.
