VSU has state of the art planetarium

Valdosta State University's planetarium now has state of the art technology.

They've gone from a mechanical projector to a digital one that uses an IPAD.

The planetarium also had a new sound and light system installed.

The mechanical projector allowed students to look at the sky at night from any place on earth but students were restricted to earth.

Now they can visit other planets and even the moon.

"With the digital planetarium, its computer capabilities, we can do that but also simulate flying to the moon and standing on the moon's surface and flying around the rings of Saturn," said Dr. Kenneth Rumstay.

The $160,000 project was completed from Valdosta's State Academic equipment pool. The dome was also cleaned and painted during the summer.
