The trial began Monday for an Albany man charged with the hit and run death of a hearing impaired man last year.

34-year-old Terry Roberson is charged with vehicular homicide in the death of 66-year-old  Roosevelt Cooley in January 2010. Cooley could not hear or speak.

He was hit by two cars while crossing West Oglethorpe Boulevard. Neither car stopped.

Two months later, police arrested Roberson and said he was the driver of the first car to strike Cooley.

Prosecutors say Roberson had a suspended license and had been drinking when he ran a red light that rainy night.
