A third grade teacher at Dewar Elementary School is Lowndes County's teacher of the year.
Amy Brosemer says the award came as a complete surprise.
She enjoys teaching all subjects.
Her students produce daily newscasts called the Dewar Island News that include school news, weather and the lunch menu.
"Working with the kids and seeing those aha moments you know when they finally get it and they're like ah that's awesome," said Brosemer. "Just those moments are the best."
She started the news program three years ago.
Now her class is working on public service announcements about the recycling program Brosemer also started on campus.
