COLEMAN, GA (WALB) - Randolph-Clay High School is mourning the death of legendary Red Devil basketball coach Joe Williams.
Randolph-Clay principal Ron Gadson says Williams died this morning after a lengthy illness.
Williams is believed to have been 78 years old based on a Georgia House Resolution honoring the Randolph-Clay basketball team during a state record 90-game winning streak in 2006.
Williams won more than 1,000 games and six state titles during his lengthy career.
Williams won two state titles at Clay County and then became head coach when Randolph-Clay opened in 1980.
Williams led the Red Devils to four state titles including back to back championships in 2004 and 2005.
Williams retired after the 2008 season.
The Randolph-Clay High School Gym is named in honor Joe Williams.
