ALBANY, GA (WALB) - After losing last year's region title in penalty kicks, the Darton Lady Cavaliers soccer team is back and ready to get back on top in the state and perhaps the nation.
Darton returns most of last year's squad that lost in the region final.
That includes their top scorers Sashanna Campbell, Shelby Bush, Taylor Benton and Lee County's Rachel Hatch.
The Lady Cavs add another goal scoring threat with Haishia Cantave, who is a member of the Canadian national team.
Fiona Ryan was outstanding in goal last year but will be challenged by Sarah Story who transferred in from Ole Miss.
Head coach Ken Veilands knows he has the talent on paper and hopes that talent can stay healthy all year.
Ken Veilands said. "There is a lot of things that can happen. You have got to hope you can prevent injuries. put your team in the toughest situations you can. come out of it healthy, emotionally healthy as well as physically healthy."
Darton will play at a jamboree at Thomas University on Saturday.
The home opener is August 28th against Oxford College.
