NASHVILLE, GA (WALB) - New Berrien High head coach Tony Long says it has been a long time since the Rebels have had a winning season.
That is something Long wants to change.
Long may be Berrien's sixth head coach in the last ten years but he has been an assistant and knows his personnel very well.
Berrien returns perhaps the top back in region 1-AA in Devonte Bass and they have moved quarterback Vidal Akins to receiver to take advantage of his playmaking ability.
Shawn Witt and Taylor Griner are battling for the quarterback job this season.
The defense will be led by linebacker Tanner McMillan and defensive end Hunter Hancock to lead the defense.
Coach Long may not be a stranger to Berrien players and fans but he is making a few of his own changes to the Rebels style of play.
Tony Long said. "Changing the offense. Not throwing the ball as much. More ball control and more clock control for our team. Hopefully, it will give us a little more success. With our defense, we are going to be a little more aggressive and we are going to fly around a little more."
Berrien opens the season August 20th at Southwest Macon.
