CORDELE, GA (WALB) -
Around 11:00 PM Saturday night, the Cordele Fire Department received a call to a smoke investigation at Blackshear Trail Elementary School, but on the way there they learned that the school's roof was in flames.
Investigators believe the fire to be the work of an arsonist.
Fire officials say the blaze was set by someone who used an accelerant to ignite the fire on the roof of the school. Flames damaged a large portion of the roof and ceiling as well as a classroom.
School will resume on Monday as usual with the damaged room closed off.
