Busy traffic on first day of school in Lee County

Posted: Updated:

All the traffic in Downtown Leesburg this morning meant one thing. School is back in session.

As parents took kids back for the first day some waited in traffic for up to 15 minutes.

Lee County Deputies were out directing traffic to ease some of the congestion.

Even with their help, traffic still moved at a snails pace and even reached up to Robert B. Lee Highway.

Motorists were somewhat relieved about new road plans that should take place at the end of the year.

"I don't know I need to see what the actually plan is. But if you live in this area, it's something that comes with the territory.

The city plans to add a left turn lane and eventually the north bypass to help the flow of traffic.
