The man accused of killing a Dougherty County Police officer was in court Tuesday as prosecutors begin the process of seeking the death penalty.
20 year old Dontravius Thomas is charged with murdering Lt. Cliff Rouse.
His first unified appeal hearing was held today as the court began the long process of making sure Thomas's defense team completes all their required procedures. Prosecutors say they know this will be an emotional trial for the community.
"And we will move this preliminary stage of the process hopefully within the course of this year. And anticipate we can make, this case go to trial by certainly some time in 2012," said Dougherty D.A. Greg Edwards.
Thomas was represented by Jerry Word and Bert Baker of the Georgia Capital Defense Team.
