CAIRO, GA (WALB) - The foundation for the Cairo High football team is their defense.
The Syrupmaker defense last year gave up just under six points a game.
The bad news for Cairo opponents is the Syrupmakers returns nine starters from the defense.
That includes all-state linebacker Terrell Cason and cornerback T.J. Gurley who has committed to sign with South Carolina.
The Makers defense also returns P.J. Davis, Cedric Stewart and Jarvis Duncan.
The offense did lose running back Laquinton Williams.
head coach Tom Fallaw says there are four candidates to succeed Williams but picking the go to guy will be tough.
At quarterback Steven Bench has moved from Bainbridge and coach Fallaw believes his quarterback will have a handle on the Syrupmaker offense by the time the season starts.
Tom Fallaw said."He has got a totally new offense and totally new verbage, totally new surroundings and totally new familiarity trying to learn the coaches and the players. it is a alot to put that on a kid and try to learn that in four weeks. It is going to be tough for him."
Cairo opens the season at home on August 26th against Drew.
