ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The SIAC champion Albany State Golden Rams football team opened summer camp today.
Per NCAA rules, the Golden Rams working out in helmets and shorts before the full pads will come on at the end of the week.
One area that was supposed to be the strength for this team this season is now one of its biggest questions.
That area is the offensive line.
The Golden Rams lost two starters, both preseason all-conference selections, to academics.
Add to that new offensive line coach Lawrence Livingston didn't start his new job until last week.
That means Livingston and the offensive staff face a big challenge in getting this unit ready for their first game in less than a month.
Head coach Mike White said. "That means trouble. We have got a lot of work we have got to do. We have got a lot of information we have got to cram. Get in. We have got our work cut out for us on the o-line."
Over on defense, head coach and defensive coordinator Mike White says rebuilding the secondary and linebacking units are the top priority during camp.
Mike White said. "I really wish I could call out a name right now. It is that kind of toss up in the air kind of thing. I am not sure who is going to step up. I hope in the next few days we will know a little more."
Albany State will scrimmage on August 20th and 27th before opening the season September 3rd in Macon against Savannah State.
