It has been a great spring and summer in Homerville after Clinch County won the Class A state football championship last December. The celebration is over for head coach Jim Dickerson and the rest of the Panthers. They start the season looking to replace more than 20 seniors from last year's state championship team.
Clinch County does return receiver Fred Tiller and defensive ends Dalton Bennett and Kenneth White, the two combined for 42 quarterback sacks last year. Robert Poole is leading a four player race at quarterback. Receiver Rashaud Grant is likely going to be the starting tailback.
These Panthers may be young but they learned what it takes to win a state title from the guys they are replacing.
Dickerson said "They are young and inexperienced. The reward there is they are young and eager to learn. You can see them getting better every day. We haven't reached a peak by no means. The reward comes seeing them wanting to learn. Working hard and improving day by day."
The Panthers open the season on August 26th in Homerville against Pierce County.
