ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Monroe High usually contends for the region 1-AAA title.
Last year saw the Tornadoes finish near the bottom of the region standings and miss the state playoffs for just the third time in the tenure of head coach Charles Truitt.
The Tornadoes are looking to storm back to the top in region 1-AAA with nine starters back on defense.
Leading the way is junior linebacker Anthony Smith, defensive end Vantrell McMillan and defensive back Devine Noel.
Noel will also be a big part of the Monroe offense though not primarily at quarterback.
Sophomore Charles Stafford will see most of the snaps and he will be looking to get the ball to Noel and another talented receiver Travious Hudson.
Charles TTruitt said. "But we feel that two men need to be on the field at the same time. With Charles throwing the football and Devine being able to make things happen, we feel very good about those two guys."
Monroe has also worked on conditioning after four of their five region losses were by ten points or less.
Monroe opens at home against Terrell County on August 26th.
