With a full year under his belt Westover High head football coach Octavia Jones is much more settled and set to go for year two as the Patriots head coach. Coach Jones has plenty of experience with 17 starters coming back. Ten of those are on defense. Defensive linemen Christopher Greene and Derrick Akins will be powerhouses on defense along with linebacker Don Mills and defensive back Kenny Towns who will also contribute.
Akins and Towns are also key pieces on offense. At quarterback, T.J. Wester is battling for the starting job with T.J. Cromer who has moved back to Albany from Tift County.
Coach Jones says the quarterback competition will make the team better this season.
Jones said "He helped make our quarterback situation better because he pushed T.J. Wester into fighting and competing harder. We think he is going to bring an attitude that is different coming from a program that has experienced more winning than Westover has."
Westover will open the season at Mitchell County on August 26th.
