Burned Berrien Co. body identified

Nashville – The GBI Crime Lab has identified the victim in the murder and burning of a body in Berrien County as Carlos Robinson, 31 years of age, from Valdosta, Georgia.

The GBI Douglas Office had been requested on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 by the Berrien County Sheriff's Office after a vehicle fire was discovered shortly before 8:00 p.m. at the edge of a peanut field off of Barker Road in Berrien County on that date.

Upon extinguishing the vehicle fire, firefighters discovered a burned body inside the vehicle.

The body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab in Macon where an autopsy was conducted. The preliminary results indicated the victim was a black male.

The official cause of death has not yet been determined. The GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta utilized DNA samples to make the identification of the victim as Robinson. The GBI has previously obtained arrest warrants for five (5) individuals relating to the murder in Berrien County, Georgia.

The investigation is still on-going; therefore no other details will be released at this time.

The investigation is being conducted by the GBI Douglas Office and Berrien County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the GBI Thomasville Office, Valdosta Police Department, Lowndes County Sheriff's Office, and Waycross Police Department.
