Valwood has big hopes in 2011

MINEOLA, GA (WALB) - The Valwood Valiants like all teams have set winning a state championship as a goal this season.

The Valiants believe they have a realistic chance of achieving that goal.

The Valiants return 18 starters from last year's team that made it to the AA semifinals.

Valwood returns explosive receiver Rashad Mathis and running backs Alex Waldron, Trey Woodward and Ian Mashburn.

Valwood will have a new quarterback in Jake Lastinger.

He is the son of former Valdosta High and UGA q-b John Lastinger.

The Valiants goal is to win state but their coach wants his team to take it one game at a time.

He also knows it doesn't hurt to have a championship attitude.

Brannon Tidwell said. "You start winning and the mindset changes. We have got nine on both sides of the ball. Once you start winning. It starts steamrolling. We will be ready to go."

Valwood opens the season at home against Tiftarea on August 26th.
