Young Bearcats want to avoid cellar repeat

BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) - Bainbridge High coach Ed Pilcher is used to challenging for the region title.

So, coach Pilcher and his Bearcats are looking to turn the tables after finishing last in region one quad-a one year ago.

If the Bearcats are going to bounce back into the playoffs this season, they are going to have to do it with a young team.

The offense returns just four starts and Quincy Fortson having to convert to quarterback and learn the Bearcats triple option offense.

The defense will also be young.

Coach Pilcher says virtually all starting jobs are open with the start of fall practice.

The one spot that is locked down is defensive tackle.

Shammai Wilbern was second team all-region last year and is being counted on to anchor the front.

The Bearcats may be young but they believe they have the ingredients to get back into the playoffs.

Ed Pilcher said. "We got 8 dbs competing for 4 spots right now.We got 4 or 5 linebackers competing for the other 3 so its very competitive right now."

Shammai Wilbern "I cant say that we're going to win all ten or guarantee anything but I guarantee effort. We're going to have a solid year. If we get everybody on the same page, we're going to have a solid year."

Bainbridge opens the season at home against Early County on August 26th.
