VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The Lowndes High Vikings have been the top team in the region 1-AAAAA for the last decade.
Head coach Randy McPherson and the Vikings want to continue that domination this year.
The Vikings though have some big positions open heading into the season.
Head coach Randy McPherson says the battle for quarterback is still wide open but the backfield does return Mike Moore and Nic Burgman.
On defense, the front will be anchored by James Mathis and Matt Frazier but Vikings will be inexperienced in the secondary.
To help with that Lowndes is moving Josh Clemons to safety where Tiquan Lane does return.
Clemons is one of the top players in the state and the Vikings also have plans for him on offense.
Coach McPherson says Lowndes still runs the wing-T but have added a spread version with Clemons carrying the football from the quarterback position.
Randy McPherson said. "We have the ability to run some of the wing-T stuff out of the spread with the quarterback as a running back type thing. It has worked real well in practice. We will see."
Lowndes opens the season on the road August 19th at South Gwinnett.
