    Thomasville Police Officers responded to Walmart in reference to a shoplifting Sunday night. Employees said the man pulled knife and began swing it at them. He then ran to a vehicle parked in the parking lot and attempted to leave however, but the car would not start, so he took off running.

CASA or court appointed special advocates held their volunteer orientation Thursday night at the Lily Pad Center.

The advocates work with DFCS and the court system to stand up for children in abuse or neglect cases.

They attend court proceedings make recommendations to the judge about what a child needs and serve as a counselor for the child.

"The Department Family and Children Services case managers have 15-20 cases has and with CASA we only have one or two cases per CASA, so we can give them more attention," said CASA Advocate Director Evelyn Cookley.

CASA will hold a Dance-a-thon next Saturday to raise money to train advocates and help clients.
