Albany unemployment rate rising this summer

More south Georgians are out of work. And the unemployment rate is rising again.

With just a couple of exceptions, the jobless rate dropped or stayed the same each month over the last year. The unemployment rate in the Albany area was down to 9.9% in May, but it spiked to 10.8% last month.

Even with extra training and certification, many job hunters say they still can't find work.

Albany had a net loss of 300 jobs last month and June marked the 47th consecutive month that Georgia's unemployment rate exceeded the national rate.
