Valdosta will get a new mayor.

The current mayor announced this afternoon he will not run again.

This is video of Fretti giving his state of the city address.

Mayor John Fretti has been in office for eight years.

He's the subject of an investigation he asked the district attorney to conduct.

He said he did not want that to be a distraction in the mayor's race.

A Valdosta businessman accused Fretti of double dipping on travel expenses.

In a letter announcing his decision not to run, the mayor says an unintentional error resulted in duplicate mileage reimbursement requests to the city and the state.

Fretti said he immediately repaid the state when he realized the error.
