THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Five people are charged with illegally selling alcohol at an event center in Thomasville. Police say they raided a party at The Meeting Place Tuesday night.

Groups rent out The Meeting Place for meetings and other events. Police seized alcohol, marijuana, and cash during the raid.

They arrested Malcolm Banks, Earnest Riggs, Shemeka Thompson, Cristin Burgess, and Tandyce Knaff who investigators say were in charge of the event. "They tell everyone who rents this building that there's a city ordinance against charging admission and serving alcohol so it's in their contract also that they signed," said Public Information Officer Lt. Eric Hampton.

Police say not all Meeting Place events are problems, but loitering is often a concern. They say events sometimes draw large crowds that can be hard to contain.
