Two T'ville men arrested in Cairo shooting

CAIRO, GA (WALB) - Two Thomasville men are in jail charged with shooting and killing a man in a drive-by shooting.

21-year old Jerry Bodiford was gunned down late Wednesday night in Cairo. Investigators say he was an innocent man who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

They arrested Bodiford's suspected killers.

The call came in to Cairo PD around 10:48 Wednesday night. "I was just inside and I heard like four or five gun shots so I ran outside and I ran into a girl and she was crying and she said they shot him. And so I asked her who and she said Duck," said Friend and Witness Kimberly Roquemore.

Police say 21-year-old Jerry "Duck" Bodiford was shot at this housing project in Cairo and died later at Grady General Hospital. Police say Bodiford was an innocent victim.

They say Frank Williams, Jr and Shadrick Killens, were targeting someone else, but police still aren't sure who they were aiming for. "I took off running and I just see him laying down you know he wasn't responding or none of that. He was still breathing, we felt a pulse," said Roquemore.

Kimberly Roquemore was the one who called 911. "I sat with him until they got here and you know they tried to do what they could for him."

Friends and Neighbors of Bodiford say he was well respected in the community.

"Jerry Bodiford that was my classmate. He was well known, he was well loved, and he is well missed," said Friend Roseanne Huntley.

"He was well known around here. He was a football player a couple years ago. He was a straight A student," said Neighbor Tamyra Johnson.

Other witnesses say they thank god no young kids were around. "It could have been anybody's children. It could have been a little child that got hurt, you what I'm saying, that got killed," said Johnson.

GBI, the Grady County Sheriff's Office, and Whigham Police are assisting Cairo PD with the investigation.

Williams and Killens are in the Grady County Detention Center Thursday charged with murder and aggravated assault.
