ATLANTA, GA (WALB) - One of the longest games Atlanta Braves history should have been longer.
Major League Baseball Vice President for Baseball Operations Joe Torre says Atlanta Braves infielder Julio Lugo should have been called out at home plate in the bottom of the 19th inning and the Braves game with the Pirates should have continued.
Meals called Lugo safe ruling that Pirates catcher Michael McKenry missed a swipe tag.
The Braves beat the Pirates 4-3 in the longest game in Turner Field history.
Torre says he spoke with Meals who is describes as a hard working, respected umpire who feels bad about the missed call.
Torre says MLB knows the call was not the product of a lack of effort.
The Pittsburgh Pirates did file a formal complaint with the commissioner's office.
