Double Celebration for Larry Dean

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -    Former Valdosta State linebacker Larry Dean got some great news Tuesday morning when he signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings.

The problem for Larry is he had to leave right away for Minnesota and was going to miss his college graduation on Saturday.

Valdosta State wanted to honor one of their top student-athletes.

VSU interim president Dr. Louis Levy presented Larry with his diploma on Wednesday afternoon.

Two hours before Larry was to fly to Minnesota to begin his NFL career.

Larry Dean was a consensus DII All-American and National DII defensive player of the year.

He also broke Jessie Tuggle's VSU record for career tackles.

Larry wants to follow in Tuggle's footsteps in the NFL.

Larry Dean said. "Just to finally accomplish this milestone on such a big day. Two birds with one stone. Get to graduate. That is a dream and also get to continue my football career. Get to play at the next level. That has always been a childhood dream as well."

Minnesota will open training camp on Sunday.
