A death investigation is still pending in Lee County. Around 4pm Friday, relatives found a man dead from a gunshot wound outside his Smithville home.
Police are looking deeply into the case for foul play or self inflicted injuries. Relatives say they don't believe his death is suicide but an attempt to protect himself from neighborhood dogs.
"No, he would never do that. As you can see there are dog prints everywhere on the trampoline", says the victim's brother Johnny Hughes.
Police are continuing to look at the case and have turned it over to the GBI for a more in-depth look.
