A Lake Park man is headed to prison for life for the murder of a toddler.

Brandon Thompson was convicted in May of killing his girlfriend's two year old daughter Abriana Thomas.

She died of blunt force trauma to her head in October 2009.

Rufus Johnson lived next door and was surprised by Thompson's conviction.

"I still don't believe he did it," said Johnson. "Just knowing Brandon the way I knew him and had been around him ever since he was a child. He and my son grew up in this neighborhood. Brandon never gave any impressions of a troublemaker or anything like that."

Rufus Johnson says Brandon Thompson has two young children.

Thompson will be eligible for parole in 30 years.
