BGD murder trial continued

The murder trial for the remaining suspected Black Gangsta Disciple gang member charged with beating a man to death during a gang initiation has been continued, because more defendants could be added to the trial.

Ernest Thomas was to stand trial for murder Monday for the 2009 beating death of Reginald Richardson.

Four other men scheduled to stand trial with Thomas have already plead guilty to other charges. But information they gave Investigators led to the arrest of 35 year old Sherman Northern earlier this month, and another man is being sought in the case.

Prosecutors say the guilty pleas by the gang leaders have cut the heart out of the BGD's.

Dougherty District Attorney Greg Edwards said  "The BGD's were mainly focused on drug activity and were very organized. Actually this trial and those pleas have taken away their legs and leadership."

Edwards said he hopes the court can re-schedule the BGD's murder trial later this year, after the last suspect that Investigators are seeking is arrested and charged.
