It's another way for middle and high school players to make sure those basketball skills don't take a hit. The Albany Youth Basketball League entered its championship day on Saturday."The Most" topped "The Wizards" 46-27 to take home the 9th grade division B title. Meanwhile, "Dougherty Middle School" edged "The Eagles" 36-33 winning the 9th grade division A championship.
The league designed to bridge the gap in the off-season for those playing for their respective schools. Organizers say they love to see the improvement in the kids as well.
Chris Cameron said "We see a lot of kids come in and start out at one level and by the end of the league you can see the growth. You can see that they have been learning. You can see the passion and poise that the kids play with. From that perspective the league was very beneficial for these kids."
David Quimby said "It feels good that I have to play so I can be better when school season starts. The competition is good. I just think we have to play better. There are good players, we just have to play better and keep going."
