ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Water Gas and Light crews continue to keep Albany's appearance in mind When they work on projects like this one on Gordon Avenue near Willie Pitts Road. WG&L and city sewer workers are installing sewer pipes under the road.

Six years ago, Gordon would have been impassable and yards would have been torn up, but Water Gas and Light purchased directional drills back in 2005 to protect the landscaping.

The Light director says purchasing this tool is a cost saving strategy.

"We started looking at different directional drills and a way to install conduits and replace underground cable without disturbing the land surface," said WG&L Light Director, Jimmy Norman.

The department uses the directional drill mostly to repair underground cable but will help out other city and county departments when needed.
