Racetrack shuts down during lawsuit

COLQUITT COUNTY, GA (WALB) - A south Georgia race track that's in the middle of a legal battle has shut down, at least for now.

An announcement on Needmore Speedways' website says it canceled the remainder of the 2011 race season due to circumstance beyond the owner's control.

Earlier this year, a family who lives near the Colquitt County track filed a lawsuit claiming the facility polluted their land, disrupted their peace, and ran races deep into the night which prevented them from sleeping.

The attorney for that family wasn't sure of the reason behind the shutdown. We were unable to reach the track's owner.
