ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It's a crime spree that even shocked the cops. There were 11 break-ins over the weekend in central Albany, mostly at businesses. But at least one church was also hit.

The Custodian at Friendship Daycare at Friendship Baptist Church came to work Friday. The first clue was the kitchen.

"I saw there were plates and empty broccoli bags so I came back out here and saw where they had kicked in plexi glass and I called police," said Ronald Carter.

Someone also stole chicken and canned goods and ran out the same door he or she broke in.  Ronald Carter is just glad food was the only thing stolen.

"I think he may have just been homeless and hungry," Carter added.

Just north of the church across Pine avenue, someone broke into three business at the Pace building on North Jefferson. F and F Industrial was another target on West Broad avenue.

Police say one burglar may have injured himself on glass during a break-in at Susie's Rugs and Pillows on North Washington street. This is just a handful of businesses targeted in the central district over the weekend. That's 11 total from West Highland road to North Washington street.

"This is a very unusual amount of burglaries to occur in such a short time span," said APD Spokeswoman, Phyllis Banks.

Albany Police ask anyone with information to call the Criminal Investigations Bureau at (229) 431-3288 or remain anonymous and call Crime Stoppers at 436-TIPS (8477).
