VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

68-year-old John Gayle plans to run for the mayor's office. The retired sales representative and former business owner grew up in Valdosta.

He says he'd be able to keep the city's budget balanced and build better relationships with county and state leaders so the city could get more grant money.

"I'm not running because I'm mad at somebody, or because I'm mad at the way some things are happening, I just feel like I can do a good job because I don't have that ax to grind," said Gayle.

Current Mayor John Fretti says he's not ready to announce whether he'll run for re-election.
