Commissioners say no tax increase for Dougherty County

Posted: Updated:

People in Dougherty County will not see an increase in their taxes again this year. For a fourth straight year, county commissioners will not raise the millage rate.

They're dealing with a shrinking tax digest but they're doing everything they can to reduce the burden on taxpayers and keep employees as close to their normal salary as possible.

"We've reduced our budget and thankfully we did not have to have any furlough days for our employees and not increase the millage rate," said commissioner Lamar Hudgins.

The last time commissioners raised taxes was in 2006. They'll officially set the millage rate next week.
