The murder trial of five suspected members of the Black Gangsta Disciples is scheduled to begin in a week and a half.

The defendants are charged with beating Reginald Richardson to death in 2009 as part of a gang initiation.

The District Attorney expects some of those five to plead guilty.

Six other gang members already entered guilty pleas.

They admitted taking part in the beating of Richardson in the sand dunes near Dunes Drive while initiating him into the Black Gangsta Disciples.

Dougherty D.A. Greg Edwards said "It's important that we break up the structure of gangs. This case leads a long way toward doing that. A significant number of the members of the gang will be incarcerated as a result of this particular situation."

Those six other gang members entered guilty pleas for voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and gang participation.

They won't be sentenced until after they testify in the murder trial as part of their plea deals.
