Monroe High's Mimieux Land thought she had earned a spot on the USA Youth Track team after a 2nd place finish in the long and high jump at the world trials last week but even though she qualified for the team she was left off the final list when the U.S team was announced.
The selection committee stated that it reserves the right to select the 40 members which it feels can place in the top 8 at the World Championships. Land is now back in South Georgia and says while she is disappointed, she's not discouraged by the decision and says she needs to continue to work on her game.
Land said "I think it worked out how it was supposed to work out. If it was to be it would have panned out that way. I'm pretty pleased with my performance that I've done. It just goes to show that you have to work hard at what you do continue to do what you want if you want to get there."
