Albany Firefighters were busy Saturday afternoon battling several grass fires. One of them grew out of control and came very close to homes near Gillionville road.

AFD says a company was cutting logs and clearing land near a property Off Lockett Station Road earlier Saturday afternoon when the fire started.

Georgia Forestry crews had to cut a fire break around the perimeter to keep the fire from spreading. It's near dozens of homes. None have been evacuated yet.

One neighbor who lives nearby on Harvest lane as lived there 17 years and has never seen a fire this close to his home.

"This is scary," said Rudolph Jackson. " I hope it doesn't reach our street corner."

Fire crews are working to get that blaze under control, and have been called to at least two other grass fires Sunday afternoon.
