Some folks in South Georgia frantically tried to get in touch with loved ones who live near the destruction in Oklahoma. Leesburg's Wendy Mathis has a brother who lives in Oklahoma City and works in Bethany, just 10 miles north of Moore. Albany native Liz Barfield recently relocated to a city nearby Moore, Oklahoma.

At Phoebe Putney Hospital, they haven't had to postpone or call off any elective procedures, but doctors are trying to conserve blood.

They want to make sure they have enough blood for patients who need the most blood, Newborns, Cancer patients, and trauma victims.

"Typically there are a slow down of donations during the summertime so we pretty much have the same number of surgeries same significant type of surgeries that will use blood throughout the year", says Dian Swafford, manager of Phoebe Blood Bank.

Please visit the Red Cross located on 1515 Dawson Road to donate blood. Your donation will be good until August allowing your gift to continue giving.
