Monroe's Land left off USA team

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WALB) -  Monroe's Mimieux Land thought she had earned the right to represent the USA at the World Youth Track and Field championships.

Land thought she was going to France after finishing in second in the long jump and high jump at the USA trials in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

When the USA team was announced, Land's name was left off.

The selection process states the top two finishers at the USA trials are eligible for selection.

However, the selection committee has sole discretion to select up to 40 team members.

The committee is supposed to look at performances at the trials and judge whether a competitor can place in the top eight at the world meet.

Ruff Riders track coach Paul Jones says Mimieux Land is naturally disappointed she was not selected to compete for the USA at the World Meet.

Land has won seven state GHSA field event titles in three years.
