ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The theme for the Albany Panthers this SIFL season is to win the championship they believe they allowed to slip through their fingers last year.
So, it should be appropriate the one player who took the most heat in last year's playoff loss has led the Panthers to Saturday's title game against Louisiana.
That player is of course quarterback Cecil Lester.
Lester started the season as the Panthers backup but by week three was the starter.
Head coach Lucious Davis says his veteran players have really stepped up in the playoffs and that includes his quarterback.
Last year's playoff experience though turned out to be a learning experience for Lester who says his focus in this year's postseason is just to get the football to his great receiving corps.
Cecil Lester said. "If I can get the ball to those guys, they make it easy for me. I am just doing my job. Everybody is doing their job. Playing together and staying focused. Just playing hard for each other and this is the outcome."
Panthers will host Louisiana in the SIFL title game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Albany Civic Center.
All tickets are $10.
