The Lee County Sheriff's Department is now working with the Albany Crime stoppers. The Lee County Sheriff's Department asked to join the Albany Crime-stoppers program. The Sheriff's Department believes it will be a helpful tool in closing some cases.
Congressman Sanford Bishop has heard veterans' concerns over the running of Georgia's VA clinic, and he's taken them to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Bishop said his office continues to receive complaints from veterans about the quality of service and attitude of those who staff south Georgia's VA clinics.
He says delays in service and benefits is inexcusable.
Bishop is a member of the Military and Construction VA Subcommittee and Appropriations and he says the brass from the VA as well as from the military often comes before the committee and he has raised concerns with them. He says the funding is there and wonders why the service isn't.
"The funds are there," he said. "I think it's a more systemic problem that resources it's a question of attitude and customer service and we've heard that repeatedly from our veterans and we intend to do something about it."
Bishop says he's currently meeting with and discussing the problems, concerns with the VA from the highest level to the regional level in Atlanta as well as the providers themselves.
