An Albany civic club donates child car seats to the Albany Police Department to help keep children safe. They hope other groups will join their effort.

The Albany Kiwanis Club donated one thousand dollars worth of child car seats.

The club heard of the need from Police officers who see families that can't afford car seats and saw the donation as a way to help the community.

"To raise money to be able to give to the Police Department, to be able to give to the children that just could not afford to have a car seat. It's for the safety of the kids," said Dewey Smith of the Albany Kiwanis Club.

Albany Police will distribute the car seats to families in need. The club is asking other civic organizations or businesses to join them in providing car seats.
