As of Wednesday morning, Firefighters on both Racepond and Sweat Farm Again Fires will continue to patrol for re-burn and mopping up hot spots.

New starts from afternoon thunderstorms are also a concern.

Rain showers have continued to slow activity on the Honey Prairie Fire on the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge.

Fire behavior analysts have reiterated that conditions are a long way from favorable when it comes to actually extinguishing fires burning in the area.

Here is a recap of the status of the fires:
  •  Honey Prairie Fire Complex: 286,698 acres, 60% contained
  •  Sweat Farm Again Fire: 19,169 acres, 70% contained
  •  Racepond Fire: 20,934 acres, 69% contained

Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge remains closed at this time, and will remain closed through the holiday weekend.

Refuge and fire managers will begin evaluating changes in those closures as the fire danger to the public decreases. See attached links for more information.
