Drought causes fireworks safety concern

Something else to be aware of as the severe drought scorches southwest Georgia is fireworks this Fourth of July.

As people stock up for next Monday, everyone is encouraged to practice safety and keep in mind fireworks can be extremely dangerous and could cause a fire especially during these dry times.

Even though fireworks are banned in some parts of the state, due to wildfires, they're still allowed here in Dougherty County. Even those selling fireworks on Dawson road want to make sure buyers are careful.

"People love fireworks," said Phantom Fireworks sales associate, Ellen Pearlman. "I just caution everyone to be aware of the dry weather and don't do anything foolish."
