Early county missing woman case lacks Mattie Call

    Five months after the mysterious murder of a Coffee County woman, people gathered Tuesday night in Douglas to remember her and to launch a community effort to make sure her case isn't forgotten. Friends
    People gather to bring attention to one of many unsolved murders of women in Coffee County.

The Early County Sheriff's Office issue a Code Red Alert when Shorter disappeared notifying people who live in the area about her disappearance.

But no Mattie's Call was issued.

That's a statewide alert put out when a local law enforcement agency believes an elderly or disabled person is in immediate danger.

The state set up the Mattie's Call system in 2006.

When a local agency activates Mattie's Call. The GBI notifies media all over the state and puts the missing person's information in the National Crime Information Center database.
